Myles' Mylestones: Once a month, I've been sharing our Mylestones (get it?)But this month, I wanted to think about 10 items I wanted him to have that he could possibly pass down to his children and they could do the same.
"You will know what love looks like. Love is home."
This part moved me to tears, Marc... This is my favourite thing you've written, although it feels like I say that every other week lol.
The shoes reminded me of a story I heard when I took a dua course a few years ago. The leader (who's since passed, God rest his soul) told the story of wanting a baby for years. He and his wife kept trying and trying and every month, nothing. Someone told him, you have to believe it's going to happen, all in God's time. And so, along with praying for her, they went and bought baby clothes to bring her home from the hospital.
He had a girl some time later, and then two more children.
Your smiles define the word radiance. I love that you are giving Myles permission not to have to fight to prove himself. It often strikes me that this coming generation has been graced with more softness than the ones before. I'm curious to see who people become when they are not motivated by fear or lack or limitation as so many of us have been. What a gift to him... and to us all. Grateful for your light in this world!
Isabel, thank you. I know it’s early but I’m already thinking through what it means to appreciate his softness in a world that might not always value. I’m excited to see who we become as well ❤️
Some snaps for Myles! Love the slippers especially, I have been thinking of the way objects become characters themselves when they take on different meanings. And I love your brother's artwork!
I'm not crying, you're crying! This was such a beautiful list. I look forward to your letters to Myles each week, but this one. Wow. So much love here. May it be so always.
Thank you so much Janine. I really do my best to pack love in these sentences. It means a lot that I put something together you look forward to reading 🥺
Marc, congratulations on this new milestone. I'm constantly amazed at the community you have and continue to build around your family. Myles is truly a blessed child surrounded by love. Also, them loans are definitely above you now. Let's hope Moneybag Joe gets it together. Haha.
Moneybag Joe- please get it together. I’m so grateful for this community. It reminds me love is enough- that’s all I’m doing man- saying I love you in every way possible. Appreciate you for reading bro.
Love this list…especially the photos of you and your wife… so much love and chemistry! Photos say so much! Myles will know what love is and extended family too… godmother, great grandmother… you’ve such a sensitive, caring heart, as dad and an amazing human! 🩷😊
How fun he must be now… walking, learning words, his personality coming out! Your letters always warm my heart!
Thank you, Joan! Not yet walking but he’s getting into EVERYTHING. Always appreciate you comments. Thank you for never running of nice things to say ❤️
The family portrait stood out to me because it’s so different and I imagine will spark much conversation with Myles when he sees it.
An artifact I wish I had was the yellow table and pink chair I used to sit at as a little girl that had my numbers, colors, alphabet and other things for my growing mind. Whenever I would go to my dad’s house during high school, I would still sit at that table sometimes to eat my dinner. Sure, I was too tall to bend my knees under it but I would stretch my legs out to sit there and eat. I still fit in the chair with no problem as far as I can recall😅. It got thrown out at least 10 years ago cuz I broke a chair leg leaning in it and was sad to see the garbage truck pick it up later that week. Nevertheless, I had some fun times.
Absolutely gorgeous, from start to finish. Much of it made me cry (but the line about Target made me laugh!). Thank you for sharing your love with us all.
Great letter, Pops.
Thank you, Darin!
Thank you for the inclusion 🙏🏽
And your brother has skills 😮💨
I got you man!
Thank you!

Sometimes our prayers ought to really be Lord help my unbelief ❤️

Your comment reminds me how you talk so beautifully about trees. They for sure have their own character. Thanks for reading as always!

Postmarks from personal history.
Indeed!
What a mylestone! Thank you for sharing this letter with us
Appreciate you for reading, Favour!
As a poet I love the found poem and the text behind it. Both flow amazingly and are all about what it is about!
Jamal is really good at them. He makes many for writers on Notes!
Apologies, I thought it was your poem. It's great either way! I cannot believe Myles is 10 months old! Time flies!
Touching as always, Marc. I think the memory that touched me the most was the pair of slippers you kept above your bed. Myles is a lucky guy!
Thank you, Diana ❤️❤️❤️

The footprints.
A fun thing to do used to be have the toddler lie down on a sheet of butcher block paper and trace them onto it.
Then once the silhouette is there, they can paint or color themselves in.
I love that idea Bridget! Anything with arts I usually shy away from but this is something I think I can do!
🥹 this letter felt so warm and cozy.

Sometimes I wonder where those artifacts we miss are now. Thank you for sharing, Julissa ❤️
