Flowers for Black Writers: The Cookout Library
Honoring the Inspirational Voices Behind My Letters to My Son
Dear Reader,
This letter is for you, not for Myles.
I want to sincerely thank you for reading my letters to my son, Myles. I started writing to him when he was born last June, and today, these letters have reached over 1400 people across 47 US states and 68 countries!1
These letters have been healing for me as a young father, but they have also allowed me to connect with an amazing community of writers and creatives across the globe.
When I was a teacher during the pandemic and wanted my kids to get access to books, my co-teacher and I created a virtual library.2
In honor of Black History Month, I present to you The Cookout Library! It's a compilation of newsletters by living Black writers put together by me. It’s now a page on my website.
Myles is only 7 months, and frankly, sometimes, a whole lot isn't always happening. But these writers have helped me write to him faithfully every week. This is me giving them their flowers.
To access the library, simply click the link and click around. I’ll be linking the library at the bottom of my letter to Myles on Mondays and mentioning who I added for the week.
You can share the Cookout Library with friends, family, or even in your own work as well. Black writers are here, existing, writing, and doing amazing work. This is my way of lifting as I climb.
If you are new here or an avid reader, don't worry; nothing is changing. If you want to simply read the letters I write to Myles, that is perfectly okay. Just make sure you are subscribed to get every letter straight to your inbox every Monday!
Love,
Marc Typo

You are teaching your son an important and valuable lesson. By sharing the wealth of success you have had your teaching your son that he has a duty to someone other than himself.
Thank you so much for putting this together. What a celebration, what a gift!
